glaze/ firing problem

My kiln switches gave out a couple of weeks ago while I was firing a glaze
load. Don't know exactly how they all happened to fail at once. Another
issue.

Anyway, max temp reached durring firing was about 1,000 F.

I transferred several of the pieces to my small kiln and refired. A few
turned out OK. No problems with the Falls Creek Shino. But, the pieces I
had glazed with Ron and Johns 5 X 20 revision, no colorant but rims dipped
in an accent glaze, crawled tremendously. Looks almost like an ash glaze
effect where double glazed.

I was going to touch up and refire some of the mugs, I just took them out
and they have also crazed. I've never had crazing problems with this glaze
before.

Also, after the dismal second firing, I tried to soak the remaining
partially fired pieces and scrub the glaze off and no luck at all. The
glaze looks unfired, but apparently the temp went high enough to partially
fuse it.

I'm going to refire all the pieces and salvage what I can. Just thought
this was interesting. Don't understand exactly what happened. Always
thought that in general, if you had an interupted firing, you could pick up
where left off with no trouble. Is there a temp at which once reached there
is no going back?

Valerie, when all the switches fail at the same time, it usually
means a Kiln Sitter problem. I would not replace switches until
looking into other causes.
