Well, about like such other Plans as I may ever have
had...they reside in my head, or in some intangible place as
that.
So...aside from a description...there isn't any more to it,
unless I were to draw it out...and much may be decided as
upon what is a budget, or what is available, as may be made
into the thing in question...the aesthetic and the
how-of-function of the thing...
Another notion of the Raku Kiln, which I built once and no
longer have, but which I think is worth some thought, is to
take of 1/2 inch Cold Rolled 'strap' Steel as is say about
an 1/8th of an inch thick...
Elect some round or cylindrical form as has the diameter you
want the Kiln to be...
Bend the strap around it, in such a length as have to it
about a couple inches lap, and drill and rivet it there, so
to have it form a 'ring'...(having taken it off of the
bending jig, or form...of course...)
Make as many 'rings' as would, when four, five or six inches
apart, allow you the height you want the Kiln to be.
Make a small 'ring' as shall hold some little Chimney as you
may throw on the Wheel of some refractory recipe, which
shall go at the very top...and...to this ring, rivet such
several vertical elements of the same size 'strap' as shall
be bent to an arc at their ends. To in their number, in
their convergence, make a dome after they are above the
highest horizontal 'ring', and have them with a stubby 90
degree or other sharp bend, to rivet to the little top
'Chimney' holding 'ring'...
Line the whole with the Refractory Wool...fasten some light
Chains to it, as converge in some few feet in a little hook
or ring, have a single chain as go from that to an elevated
Boom as pivots, and as may be constrained to move only in a
decided path, as say against or between some Posts...and as
may have a counter-weight to it...and...set up a little
Fire-Brick foundation with some Burners in it...
I was happy with mine...the 'Kiln' was light and
good-looking, and insulated well...I used it as a smelter
for Brass as well...used some old Soft Firebrick atop the
Chimney to regulate...
So...do something as that...and you are there!
AND it is yours...
Like that...
Whatever Size you need...

Hi Phil,
Saw your post and wondered if you might send me your plans.
I've
been doing raku for a few years and would like to make a
larger kiln
and would like a look at your plans. If you have the plans
in
electronic format, just e-mail them to kin.cook@verizon.net;
if in
hard copy, let me know the cost for reproduction and an
address to
mail the payment to.
Thanks!
Kin Cook
