Hello All
I live and pot in central Oklahoma and I am wanting to build my very own =
gas fired brick kiln.
Do you all have any suggestions on where to buy fire bricks and what =
brand of bricks are best. I would be willing to travel. (have truck have =
trailer) It seems there is non where around this area that sells the =
right kinds of bricks.
Thank you very much

Alycia,
I did not see that you got a reply to this. Did you get the information
you need?
I am just catching up on e-mails from having been gone for 2 weeks, so I
apologize if this is no longer of use to you.
Look for an industrial brick supplier. You may want to start with a
brick manufacturer, like BNZ http://www.bnzmaterials.com/bnzifb.html
and ask them who distributes their product close to you. The distributor
will probably have other brands available, too. I live in a town of only
60,000 people, but there is an industrial brick company here where I can buy
fire brick.
I hope you are not looking for hard fire brick. In my experience, you
want insulating fire brick (IFB) but you can also use fiber. I built my gas
kiln from all insulating fire brick. It is slow to heat and cool because of
the mass of the brick. If I were to build another kiln I would use the
minimum amount of IFB backed by fiber board to get the most insulation for
the least weight. It would fire faster that way, and cool faster when you
want it to. IF you don't want it to cool fast, you can always fire down.
I hope some of this is helpful.
