SUMMARY:
Grandfather Juan, Grandmother Guillermina and their grandson Chato make
pottery while sharing the telling of Chato's favorite family story: How Juan
re-invented the lost ceramic art of their area, taught his relatives and
friends, and created a better life for their village.
This book contains reference material and an art lesson plan that meet
national education standards for K-6, written by the author-arts educator,
who will do school, library and educator workshops. The realistic
illustrations show Juan's pottery process, interspersed with his experiments
and discoveries as a youth.
FRONT FLAP:
Shelley Dale shares the inspirational story of Juan Quezada and the
resurrection of a small abandoned town in Northern Mexico. Shelley collected
the oral history of this amazing Master Potter during her many trips to Mata
Ortiz, Mexico, and on their expeditions into his beloved mountains. In
Juan's own words they invite you to journey to the Mata Ortiz of yesterday
and today.
