Here is a photo of the marbling effect...
Of the four remaining "balls"
Three have in fact turned completely green on the inside.
The other is still "marbled"
You can see the outside of the ball is tan/brown
and the inside completely green.
The other half ball shows the contrast in marbled colours
The air pocket is from a quartered cut..stuck back together.
The colour contrast is actually stronger when viewed live..

The other pic is my custom designed homebuilt kickwheel..
A scrap 65kg flywheel from a hand operated press,
with a fully adjustable seat..tilt and height.
She is finished in exotic hardwood..
shes my steady.

That marbling looks familiar.
Years ago we had a shop in a large Sydney historical area,
I did demos/production work in one corner, little space, I wedged on the
seat of the wheel, ate my burgers sitting at the wheel,
luuuuvly cheesecake from the cafe across from our shop,
juices/crumbs/general dribblings ended up in the wheel tray,
all clay recycled by air drying/hand wedging.
During wedging black & green areas appeared in the clay,
"exotic" odours also appeared, really impressed bystanders :)
Wonderful clay for throwing.

Des..
Yes, the odour is slightly off..not strong though.
Upon inhaling with nose to the clay...
it has a distinct metallic note to it.
Not a problem...
especially for bystanders..
Whom in yur case were probably
wondering "who cut the cheese...cake" lol
