Funny.. how it all comes back.
Damn if the main ingredient
or reasonable facsimile of Shave cream from the "tube"
is not Glycerin..I figured it would be
2,5 bromopoly gluto maximum..or some other sub nomenclature.
I found it powerful as a plasticity, lubrication, water reduction
wheel throwing enhancing addition to the claybody.
Having dropped the exploration due to no knowledge
of the ingredients in the stuff from the tube..
not liking the "mint fresh" shave smell.
and working with stiff clay at the time..
the feel became too.. "pushy"
I did write a silly rhyme about its powerful gyroscopic effect.
Now throwing soft I recognize the same "energy"
but subdued...cooperative rather than defiant.
Here is a post outlining the "discovery"...
from 21st June or around about.

Now after making a molded handle
so I could reproduce "blanks" to fiddle with..
I noticed that when I used the original
to resculpt... it had a coating of the shaving lather I use
to keep plaster from setting to plaster.
This residue gave a greasy feel
that delayed the drying process
thereby extending my work time
in addition to providing a slicker surface
giving improved tool/clay interaction...
Bright idea!.. why not add some to the body mix
to give better plasticity and drying qualities.
So I wedged in a dab from the tube
and noticed how improved the body responded
Far more plasticity..very slick feeling
and throwing became much better
with far less water required for lubrication
and allowing for easier and thinner stronger pulls etc.
with no slumping tendencies....
This for me is a major breakthrough as a body addition.
Yes more time is needed to evaluate the performance
under extended testing etc.
But it is a big green light I see.
I know some products have been tested to enhance
lubrication and lessen the requirement for water while throwing...
Think it was the guy who rigged up the wheel upside down
to get a better "pull" (for christ's sake some kind of sexual deviant??)
Any way they dont label stuff for ingredients here
and I don't like the mint scent they have added...
I'm wondering what are the major components
that I could isolate and test as useful additions.
This stuff is worth trying
with limited body experience new things are hard to compare.
Any other feedback would be worth while

and the poem for fun...
Though I'm out of the throwing phase
and deeply into sculpting handles for a vase.
Eight hours on one
two more for a mold..
even though otherwise told...
some glitter and gold
and behold
the other is done.
and a new one begun..
tried the lube for a shave
just to see how it would behave...
that sat for a day
on a piece of clay
Not a typical throw
it has more to show...
The energy does say
more than the typical clay...
to be on topic
but not a complete myopic
just a bit microscopic..
but neither neurotic
nor psychotic.
the thing seems to be truly
if not unruly
then duly...
gyroscopic

Good day : )
