i really think many are freighted silly over making
their own webpage.

it is not that big a deal.

you do not need java, spinning fire pots. what you
need is clear, black and white information. in fact, many
of those java based webpages turn me off. i just delete them.
if it does not load in seconds, i am gone.

several very important tricks:

one, make a folder with all your stuff in it...information,
data, pix.
mark it.....webpage.

get a good, simple file transfer program.
many are free.

go to:
www.ipswitch.com and use their wsftp, it is cheap and works.

i still use adobe pagemill. it is no longer made, but works like
a dream. very simple. there are old copies floating around.

talk to your isp folks about it. most isp's will give you a couple
of pages free. they will tell you how start, give you codes etc.

the big problem that i see is people want complex, state of the
art webpages. those are expensive, and you have a kid to keep paying
to change things. my nephew is 19 years old, and has a bmw.
new. been doing webpages for three years. i sure don't pay him to mess
with my webpage.

i have done my own. took a day or two and a few calls to tech
support of isp. once i had the trick...the transfer thing in hand,
it is a snap. digital camera, remember 70 dpi...keep things small.
easy.

i have combined my index page with the resume. a few pix, a
clayart page to put personal stuff on....it pays a big dividend.
i have about 40 bucks into mine. a used copy of pagemill i
bought on the net...and it came with photoshop le.
i am four years into my webpage. i can change everything in about
5 minutes. add pix etc. it is just about getting a few
key elements in mind.
sorta like learning to center, pull...you got it.
move on.

i am also convinced that the 175 buck hp digital camera that
i have is more than good enough.
was going to buy the new nikon for two grand....glad i did not.
my 1972 nikon film camera with 5 lenses will work well for me,
for the rest of my life. i think i am going to start shooting black
and white again.
nice stuff.
