it is very easy to coat older kilns with itc.
same as a new kiln...only:
make sure all the dirt, scum and glaze drops are cleaned off.
itc will not hook to salt, scale, dirt.
as i did when i was there the first time terry....spray
the kiln with water. clean it. use a scrub brush, rinse
it. broom out all the junk, clean with water again, and spray
the itc. thin coat first. watch for places where it will not stick.
(if that happens, clean that area again, scrape it.)
in most cases, if the kiln is clean, the itc works just as it does in a new
kiln.
i just fixed up a thirty year old electric kiln. the itc is stuck tight and
hard.
that kiln works the same as a new one. coated the coils with metal coat itc.
one coat of itc 100 over the entire inside surface, and coils. then a coat
of 256a. it is a new kiln.
conversion.
no reason that you cannot convert. just make sure that you support the
flu opening. you don't want those bricks just hanging there. support
that opening...a cross brick with under brick for support will work just
fine.(post and lintel)
remember, keep the opening about 7x5. 35-38 sq. inch total space will
work fine.
