Dear Antoinette,
Pleasing to know that you are making progress now that you have settled =
down and been accepted into the American way of Life.
My suggestions of texts to consult to gain information about ways of =
firing kilns are as follows.
I like Daniel Rhodes, "Kilns. Design Construction and Operation" ISBN =
B000BDJGLK. this volume contains far more practical information than =
the original book on clay and glazes.
Add to this John Olsen, "The Kiln Book". I have 2nd Ed. ISBN =
0-7136-2404-3.
The next is a private printing of the lecture notes of Harry Memmott, =
"An Artists Guide to Firing Kilns". Victoria college, Prahran Campus. It =
may still be obtainable from The Artisans Bookshop, The Meat Market, =
Melbourne, Victoria Australia. Look for a URL. H. M. explains even the =
simplest of things and defines terms when are needed. Covers the safety =
aspects of gas firing and gives illustrative firing schedules.
Best wishes,
Ivor Lewis. Redhill, South Australia
