expanding clay body - need some help

I once made a little turtle of clay with glass micro balloons in it and it
foamed up and expanded somewhat at about cone 04.
This material is used by boat builders to make a light weight putty out of
liquid epoxy resin. It consists of microscopic hollow spheres of glass. It
is pure white. There is another kind made of phenolic resin and you don't
want that (it is red brown).

I would like to try to create something that I could make a simple
but thick bowl or cup and have it expand in random and hopefully
interesting ways in the kiln to form a new shape, but without turning
into a puddle of clay.

Is this even possible?

I have visions of something like what bread dough does when it
expands.

Is there anything that will release some kind of gas that will help
expand a clay body without destroying the basic shape?

Thank you for your feedback!

Steven,

Add yeast, put in a warm place for about a half hour. Punch it down and
then make your form.

Actually, the closest thing I can think of is for you to use a clay body
that matures earlier than what you firing to--i.e. low fire red in the wood
kiln (add some grog) will actually move around and the shape will change.
Not recommended but if you are feeling brave, a great place to test this
would be in a raku kiln and then you could watch and pull before it turns
into a puddle.

Thank you.
