Hi Pat, and Janet, and others,
Mata Ortiz (village) and Juan Quezada (self-taught potter) are not
really known in this country. I learned most of what I know through
Clayart - I first read about them in messages on the list, some years
ago. Checked out the web and sure enough found lots of info and since
then I have managed to get hold of a few books and even two beautiful
little pots (not by Juan though). Most of the books and the 2 pots were
a gift from a clayarter visiting London a few years ago, Ed Pierce (not
sure if he still reading this stuff? Hi Ed, if you are there).
When I met him I mentioned how little I knew about the pottery and how
little information was available here, and he remarked that I seemed to
have learned quite a lot by then, and was probably close to being the UK
expert in the subject - a jokey remark, but I think maybe it was almost
true!
So, if you haven't read Juan's story - head for the web. Lots of info,
and lots of pictures of beautiful pots.
