hi all,
we're making tiles here and before i started slabbing i
studied the clayart archives for related info. anyway
among the theories and advice was a fascinating thread
off to the side of this issue about "disorienting" or otherwise
lessoning the effects of clay memory by dropping the slabs/
tiles from about waist height.
i read it then re-read it because i thought it could be a "fun"
theory but i took it seriously and figured i'd put it into my
procedure because it made sense and because after reading
about all the things that can go wrong for hours i was very
nervous that i'd ever make a tile without 's' cracks and other
fatal flaws.
my first bisque load was 100% without cracking but then i
followed the same procedures but ramped up through the
quartz conversion point at 10d F / hour rather than 5d F/ hour
and i got some 20% cracking in my biggest tiles.
any comments on the dropping theory? don't need to rehash
it all just anybody else using this?
Best,
george
