In my garage/studio in Illinois our truck was always pulled in at night. I kept my kiln shelves leaning against the wall. Once the truck's tires were full of snow and the salt solution the streets are sprayed with to melt the snow. In the heated garage the snow melted and some of it seeped into my shelves. The next electric firing was a slight salt. My shelves were shiny in spots and some of the glazes were improved. Not good for an electric kiln.
Even though I don't share the kiln space with a truck (we don't have a garage) I now keep the kiln shelves off the floor.
