Hello friends,
I have finally got my new computer up and running,
We are breaking in a new salt kiln and i have been disappointed in the =
slips. I remember great golds from rutile and can't seem to get any of =
the great stuff we had on our pots back in my Edinboro college days...
I have a good crackle slip and a nice shiny black trailing slip of John =
Neeley's.
Can anybody give me any new ones to try?
Also. most of the class glazes we have tried as liner glazes to not look =
too nice in the salt kiln. In fact we only really liked one that we =
tested as a cup liner.
Any suggestions? I roamed around the glaze site and was kinda lost...
I have a couple of gals waiting to mix up anything that you can =
recommend!!.. thanks so much.

Von Allen,
Check out Phil Rogers new book, "Salt Glazing". It is very informative
and has resources both in the US and UK as well as some recipes.

Hi, For salting I've been using very simple slips made up from 50/50 kaolin
and ball clay. They work pretty well and you just need to experiment a bit
with additions of oxides. Rhodes gives a good basis for trying different
mixtures and proportions of oxides, and of course it all depends on the
temperature of the firing and the amount of salt, as I've found sometimes to
my cost... Good luck,
