crazing - another data point

I am still working on my high fire clear craze free glaze for stoneware
however I think that the problem is really with the clay. (Inconsistent
mixes) We have decided to do a little more looking on that side of the
equation before beating ourselves up too much more with the glaze.

However I did a related test which I though you might be interested in.
( These are all fast-fired to Cone 11 in reduction BTW. )
I have been playing with Yanigahara White - also known as Sperry white
which was posted to the list a short while ago. I like it but found it
crazed a lot on both my Porcelain and Stoneware. I tried a test
replacing all the Silica with fine mesh (525 instead of 325 mesh)
Silica. Lo and behold no crazing on Porcelain - Yes I know that 'cure'
has been discussed before here - what I found interesting was I then
added more talc to the mix (half again as much) and the crazing returned
-just not as fine as before.

Just another data point along the road.
Cheers!
