Hi:
An alternative to any sort of resist is to use a tool or tools to carefully
carve away the top layer of glaze. If they are contrasting colors because
of oxides present in the batch, you will have a visual aid there. If they
are close to the same color, or white, you can add vegetable dye to one of
the glazes and this will aid the process.

I need some help !
I want to put 2 coats of glazes and leave some parts of the under one
showing.
Somebody told me to put parffin on the first coat where I don't want the
second one to cover it but it does not work.
Could somebody tell me how to do it.
Thank you

If you use liquid latex, you can cover the first glaze, coat the piece with
the second glaze, and then simply peel the latex off - clean edges, little
fuss. Only bad part is the smell - it's kind of rank!

It's cold in Ann Arbor, and nothing is working right. The clay must know
winter is at hand.

Gerard!
What do you mean by paraffin? In the US it is called wax, but in the UK it
is what we call kerosene. Paraffin=wax is hard, and even melted does not
work well. So it is used diluted with some oily substance--one book I have
suggests half and half with kerosene. BUT AS IT HAS TO BE HEATED IT IS NOT
A GOOD THING TO USE. Some people heat it in an electric frying pan, some in
a double boiler--I really do not know as it is not terribly safe--a real
fire hazard.
The liquid wax emulsions work well. Latex emulsion works well. People have
used other resists, and I expect the archives list some.
Anyway; if you have been using paraffin=kerosene no wonder it is not
working.
Good luck
