Your kiln should operate just fine in the cold weather. I have two
comments:
a) Be sure to leave the lid vented until all vapor has disappeared.
(Hold a mirror near a peephole.) Unless, of course, you are using a
kiln vent. In that case, the lid should remain closed during the
entire firing.
b) Purchase a kiln stand. The concrete block may alter the heating
characteristics of your kiln. The stand is not expensive.
