blue bottles: sometimes not what they appear to be

A word of warning to anyone who is thinking of rushing out to buy fancy
mineral water or booze in blue bottles... They are not always made from
blue glass! Apparently it is an expensive glass to produce and much cheaper
to cover ordinary clear glass with a super-thin layer of blue plastic.

At least, that is what happened to a Welsh mineral water producer who won
prizes for their dark blue designer bottles. Whilst it was retailing with a
huge price tag (early 1990s) all was initially fine, but once the sodium
levels had to be declared, many mineral waters waned in popularity and
producers had to find ways of reducing production costs...

A favourite British "real" blue glass bottle, comes with either 0,7 l or 1
litre of Harvey's Bristol Cream sherry... Just right for making sherry
trifles!

Sincerely
