From Helen Bates - Safety Urls- A brief list of interesting new finds -
Nov. 28th., 02

Hello,

I was searching for sites mentioning safety issues for those in the
ceramics or the glass industries, including studio workers, especially
the issues around metallic oxide fumes. There's little enough of value
to be found, but there are a few that caught my eye:

Cornell U. (Division of Facilities Services) (Ithaca, NY, USA)
http://MSDS.PDC.CORNELL.EDU/
Material Safety Data Sheets query Site

Chest Net (American College of Chest Physicians) (USA)
http://www.chestnet.org/education/online/pccu/vol12/lesson01.php
"Inhalation Fever"
(Major Types of Inhalation Fever)
Exposure Type Syndrome Name
Metal fumes Generic Metal fume fever
Zinc oxide Specific Smelter shakes
Organic dust Generic Organic dust toxic syndrome ODTS
Silage Specific Silo unloader's disease
Cotton dust Specific Mill fever
Flax Specific Heckling fever
Wood trimmings Specific Wood-trimmer's disease
Grain dust Specific Grain fever
Humidifying Generic Humidifier fever
Legionella Specific Pontiac fever
Polymer breakdown Generic Polymer fume fever
Read through the section on "Metal Fume Fever"
The data considered sparse except for Zinc, and special case of
Cadmium. (That doesn't rule out such syndromes for other metal fumes,
of course.)

Vermont Safety Information Resources Inc. (Vermont, USA)
http://www.hazard.com/msds/
SIRI MSDS Index and various occupational health and safety links.

Toxnet (National Institutes of Health) (USA)
http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov
Databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, and related areas.

"Art and Safety" (United Educators Insurance Company)
http://www.conncoll.edu/offices/envhealth/Documents/Artsafety.pdf
Four page article on safety considerations for artists.
(Adobe Acrobat Reader needed for this PDF (portable document file)
article.

"Heavy Metals Content in some Food products"
http://www.date.hu/kiadvany/tessedik/3/muntea1.pdf
Another article written in PDF format.
