Hello Clayarters,
Yes, I checked the archives which is why I looked up the Ward Burner =
site for the glasses. I just want to make sure before I order that the =
ones on the site are the same as the ones listed in the archives because =
their site does not give as much info as I'd like. They describe "24 K =
gold plated Didydium II" They make no mention of whether they are blue =
or green or what number the filter is. I am pretty sure these are the =
ones that were recommended in the archives. But-- advice, please. (All =
this reminds me of taking a class years ago at a local Community College =
where the instructor laughed when I suggested eye protection to look in =
the peepholes... scarey, huh )---Wilson

There was an excellent article in Clay Times about a year ago (as I recall)
on exactly this topic.

Dear Wilson;
I know that the didymium glasses will filter the red & infrared end of
the spectrum, That is where much of the dangerous energy is. I have
been using lenses like this for forty years and heartily recommend
them. Is the "Gold" a coating on the lens, or is it the frames?

wilson...
do a google search for lampworking supplies.... they have a variety of
glasses available... and can answer your questions regarding degree of
safety for a range of temperatures.... a few i know are
www.frantzartglass.com... waleapparatus.com... arrowsprings.com...
and sundance is at artglass1.com....
good luck.... i also had a professor who never addressed the issue of
eye protection for reduction or raku... i now have cataracts in both
eyes... have to wonder...
