Hello Clayarters,

Just thought I would let you all know that Vince Pitelka is planning
to come to my place again this summer. This year he will only be
offering one workshop. That is "Ancient Clay." It's a good one.
Vince tells me this is his favorite topic in a workshop format. Any
help or suggestions in the promotion department would be greatly
appreciated.

Covers handbuilding techniques, decoration, terra-sigilatta,
burnishing/polishing, bonfire-firing of ancient/tribal
vessels/sculpture.

For beginning through advanced. $300 + clay usage, includes
all other materials. $50 non-refundable deposit.

On-site camping allowed, or B&B next door, R. V. sites, or
motel 3/4 mile away. Share cost of group-prepared meals.

It seems about time that I give notice to the list once again of the
upcoming workshop by Vince Pitelka this summer. The topic this time
is "Ancient Clay", and the dates are July 21st through 25th. This
weeklong hands on workshop explores ancient and tribal techniques of
forming, decorating, and firing clay objects. In addition to the
hands on work, Vince presents hundreds of slides of inspiring work
in these traditions from around the world and throughout history.
Workshop concludes with a smothered bonfire firing similar to that
of many traditional cultures.

Beginning through advanced clayworkers will benefit from this
workshop. It's a great one! Vince says it's his favorite of all the
many subjects he offers workshops on. Fee is $300 plus a charge for
clay used. All other materials and firing are included. See a
detailed description of the workshop, right down to daily
activities, and some photos at
http://www.mcdowellpottery.com/ancient.htm

There is space here for tents to be pitched or car or R.V. camping.
These are allowed without additional charge. Motels and other
accomodations nearby as well. We usually pool money and effort to
prepare lunches and dinners on site, an economical and sociable
arrangement. We will accept no more than a dozen participants.

To register send a $50 US (non-refundable) deposit to:

Any help or suggestions in promoting this workshop through listings
in various guild newsletters and posting on either physical or
virtual bulletin boards will be much appreciated.

For any of you who have a chance to go, this will be a great
workshop in a beautiful setting. Michael's place is a garden -
literally, he raises organic vegetables, has an orchard, etc.
Very pleasant, indeed. And Vince's Ancient Clay workshop
is one of the best going. He has some really interesting building
techniques, and I saw some great stuff come out of a firing of
his a couple-three years ago. The facilities are excellent, the
food invariably great - go for it!
