Hallo,
Kat has jogged a memory from 20 years ago,
My evening class tutor used to make them from wire coat hangers, hope this
is of some use.

I'm trying to picture how finger/thumb things would be made from wire coat
hangers.....how about making a springlike coil the size of one's finger tips
and as you are finishing the coil, leave a point at the tips, for minimal
contact with a plate. You would only need 3 for the dominant hand, the
other hand would go on the waxed bottom.

For a slightly different method, I made a disc of wood, inserted 3 skinny
bolts, secured with the nuts, after sharpening the tips of the bolts with
the bench grinder. Works wonderfully with the kind of shape you want to
hold in both hands and rotate through a large bowl of glaze.

Good firings!
