Bill, I just re-wired my Skutt 1227 with computer controller to be used on
single phase. It used to be three phase.
That is just how the Skutt controller works. They don't use solid state
relays, they are regular relays, but they just toggle the power on, or
off, depending on the low voltage signal from the circuit board.
The rate of heating is determined by duty cycle, couple of seconds on, few
seconds off, etc.
