I think the danger lies in the bisque firing. If you are once firing, I
don't know what you can do, but if you do a bisque, then a glaze fire, you
can just smudge glaze into the hole as much as possible.
I find that this usually seals up the hole fine.
If you want reliable all the time, probably should make a large hole like
Vince suggests so it can be cleaned.
