Dear Linda Knapp=20

Before I could answer your question I would wish to know what sort of =
Crystals you intended making and then, just how far are you willing to =
compromise in adjusting your current firing program.

Best regards,

Ivor Lewis.

Dear John Weber,

If you are intending to make Zinc Silicate Crystal Glazes then heavy =
reduction will convert your zinc oxide into metallic Zinc which has a =
boiling point of just over 900 degrees Celsius. As it may take several =
hours for your kiln to climb from that point to 1300 Celsius we might =
conclude that there will be very little zinc remaining in solution to =
form silicate crystals. However, this may not be your intention, you may =
be intending to make Copper Silicate Crystals.

The post maturity reduction I suggested might give you silver crystals =
against a Red ground. I think this would be spectacular.

There has been a lot of discussion about the emphemerality of Zinc oxide =
in Reduction firings and the need to maintain an oxidising atmosphere.

Best regards,

Ivor Lewis.
