Greetings all and Happy New Year!
I would like to let people know about 2 study tours coming up this next =
year that I will be teaching. The first is offered through Nicolet =
College (off-campus students are fine!) and allows 3 Art History credits =
to be earned. We read and prepare prior to the trip May 26-June 10, and =
while in Ireland travel to may out of the way sites studying the Stone =
Age through the monastic periods-looking at pottery, artifacts, gold, =
jewelry, and Celtic design. The ancient pottery finds are amazingly =
beautiful, and we spend a good morning looking the actual examples in =
the National Museum. The rest of the trip takes place in the countryside =
of Donegal and the Atlantic coast. The second offering is a study tour =
of contemporary craftspeople, including potters, in the West of Ireland.
In this class we visit artisans in their studios, see demonstrations of =
work being made in all the contemporary crafts, such as pottery, =
weavings, and basketry. Visits to ancient sites are included in this =
trip also, several guided by local Irish people.=20
