I wonder about the irrelevant wording! Perhaps the ceramic art
industry's attitude is becoming irrelevant.Value craft as a simple
human art.Good craft should have both beauty and merit.I like using the
word merit.I think it evokes another dimension that could be discussed
and talked about. Social and environmental responsibility in the
ceramic industry! Sustainability and judging whether that piece of clay
art deserves the immense amount of energy it gets to become complete
and whole. How sustainable is raku firing considering the amount of
fuel it takes to fire that one pot and than to quick cool it, only to
diminish it's sustainable lifespan! How sustainable is that salt kiln,
it's life expectancy is relatively short! The process itself seems like
a luxury, now days. I hope we can reflect on this time in history and
question can we consume so much energy for art sake? Thank you for your
time. Kathy
