or that it will turn out anything like the shared glaze. Everyone's
conditions, equipment, materials and technique are different, therefore
it could be unrecognizable coming out of the kiln.
I have found the members of Clayart to be very generous with their
"trade secrets". Partly because they are just plain generous.....and
partly because they know everyone puts their own style into their work.
We've seen that by the variations in the test results of the glazes of
Ron & John's even after careful testing. On most of their glazes, I'm
setting my top temp in my ramp mode 30=B0 lower than their schedule with
the rest of the schedule identical....watching my cones very carefully
and getting cone 6. It takes time and patience and lots of testing to
work it out. My kiln overfires at their temperature. I have come to the
conclusion that because my kiln can't keep up with the speed of the
ramp, I'm getting more heat work before it gets anywhere near the top
temp. I haven't been a potter as long as many or maybe most on the list
but I don't have any glaze recipes that I'm not willing to share....no
secrets.
Elizabeth, looking forward to getting into her direction set for the new
year and eager to being throwing again as soon as the splint comes off
the finger with the ruptured ligament after a nasty fall in the slush.
Hand building and sculpturing for now. Happy New Year all.

hi kathy, we oftentimes exchange recipes here, and provide
specific recipes to each other. Usually they are ones that=20
have previously been published or are "out there".=20
It is bad form to ask for someone's bread and butter studio=20
glaze, or application that makes their stuff distinctive.=20
I have gleaned many a wonderful glaze from the archives.
so, keep testing,
stay warm=20

You won't know until you ask though. If you ask this way, "I love the
look of that glaze, I wonder if you would be willing to share the recipe?"
As a side, I always ask if it is something that I should keep secret.
Just because someone shares a glaze with me doesn't mean that I should
assume that they want EVERYONE to have it.....
