As of last night I am considering moving to the Jacksonville Fl area and =
joining my daughter and her family who will be relocating there from =
Manhattan. We are thinking of a semi rural place with mother-in-law =
clay studio-living space for me, and barn and/or outbuilding(s) to house =
her seminars and business. (She is the gal who organized the initial =
rescue and therapy dogs at Ground Zero, and worked there under the =
mental health umbrella till it closed.) Husband is a film editor for =
television.=20
What is the clay climate there? Where are the galleries, the studios, =
the suppliers? Is there a potter's guild ? Is there a college with a =
good ceramic program? My grandson is eight and the school situation is =
important. We are New England Unitarians from Maine and Boston, but =
lived for 15 years in Atlanta.=20
You all are my first point of research! This wonderful crew always comes =
thru. Anyone want to buy a little house and studio in New Port Richey =
Florida? Haven't had the real estate people in yet. Lori Pierce, =
very excited about the Oregon Flat Top kiln that I can build and fire =
just about anywhere...takes no more space and gas set up than a =
bar-b-que grill!

I would contact Florida Craftsmen in St. Pete Florida 501 Central Avenue,
St. Petersburg, FL 33701. (717) 821-7391 They are the state crafts
organization and gallery. They possibly can give you information on contacts
for the Jacksonville area.

Hello,
I live in Amelia Island, near Jacksonville, and just moved into a new studio
in Jax. It is at a GREAT place called Atlantic Beach Potters. Just last
night/this morning we fired the wood kiln. We will see results on Monday.
They also have a soda and large gas reduction kiln as well as electric and
Raku kilns. They offer classes which are just now forming again and have
studio areas for rent. You will also find all other necessary equipment you
may need. They sell Highwater clays, tools and other misc glazes and etc.
Most importantly, there are a great bunch of clay artists of all kinds and
have a really friendly, supportive atmosphere and are working to promote
each other. I am in heaven there. We will be starting a foodfiring workshpo
this week with a sideline on brush making. Their phone # is 904-249-4499 and
are located on Levy road near the Atlantic/Jax Beach area.
Aside from that, there are many shops and galleries along the coastal towns
nearby, as well as quite a few art/craft fairs in the area. I think you will
find a diverse array of opportunities around here. E-mail me off-list for
more info.

Hi Chris, I have tried to post you off list, but the e-mail address you give
seems not valid?!! Atlantic Beach Potters sounds great; It was recommended
by the Florida Craftmen's office in St. Petersburg also. Now to find a
place to live! Would a place in St. Augustine be too inconvenient? Thanks.

Lori,
St. Augustine is nice, but about 45 minutes south of Jax.
