Dear Clayarters, one of the galleries that I am dealing with is charging the
discount for the credit cards that they accept to my account.(2% for visa and
master and 3% for charge card). I went through my contract with them and
there is nothing stated in there about credit cards.
Am I spoilt by other galleries, or is this a mistake from the gallery?
Advice please.

I'm not sure what you mean by "discount". Are you referring to the "merchant fee"
charged by the financial institutions that the business deals with?
This fee is a percentage of the transaction amount. In our case, 2.5% for credit cards
(Visa, Bankcard & Mastercard) & 0.8% for debit cards (cheque & saving accounts),
we haven't bothered with AmEx & Diners, only 3 requests in 34 years.
To date, by law, the seller of goods/services was not allowed to add this fee to charges
at point of sale, hiding it in the prices/charges has been the practice.
From this year Oz businesses are allowed to add the merchant fee
at point of sale, to cost of goods/services for card transactions.
For the 12% of trade done outside our own showroom we only
consign work, never wholesale, ('nother story, 'nother time).
To date these outlets have absorbed the merchant fees, as have we
with our own showroom sales. To pass on merchant fees directly to consignees
is "sharp" practice & warrants a snarly complaint & possible withdrawal of work.
