piercing porcelain.

I followed some of the treat and would like to share what I do.
Firstly I use very sharp tools. Since porcelain is so quickly "dry" even if
you keep it covered, one dare not work with dull tools. I even use the blades
of a carpet knife if that is the sharpest that I can find. Secondly one need
direct support on the opposite side from where you are carving. If you can
not get in there with a finger, you need to find something else to push in
there.
I did try to fire the pieces to about 300C(don't know the F off by heart)
before and then do the piercing. It helped somewhat to get the pieces
stronger, but I am not sure yet if it was really worth the firing, since as
thin as I want my pieces, it is very fragile.
A last option that I also do use sometimes is to wet the area where I plan to
do the piercing.
Overall you will agree with me that it is time consuming and one need to be
very patient.
Hope I made myself clear enough. Let me know if there is something else.
Regards.
