i never know when people will stop and buy pots.
they just show up.

i tell folks that i am open 365/24.

i will always stop and help customers.

i leave wrapping and bags, a place to put a check or cash.
if i am gone, the studio is open.

i am like the old `honey man`. you know, the guy that left
six quarts of honey in a box by the side of the road....`take
honey, leave a dollar in the box`. people don't steal from
the honey man. same in my studio, have never lost a thing.
i totally believe that every pot i make will be sold at some point.
i just don't know when. never worry about it.

remember, my customers are old timers...have been with me
for years. they know my house, where i am. these are not
strangers off the road. they much prefer to come to my place
than a mall, for a wedding gift.

i just hired a guy to do an ascii file so that i could transfer
my mailing list from mac/appleIIe to pc. 600 names, he
did it for 75 dollars. what a bargain. it would have taken me
a week to type in all those names. now have a mailing list, all
new, easy to update. threw out the appleIIe. boy, that dates
me...but, it worked well.

nils and i had a wonderful conversation about war. he had
read that of the 59 wars/conflicts now in progress across the
globe, 50 of them are religious conflicts. (this is not going to
become a thread)
i does make one think that fundamentalism at all levels creates the
the worlds greatest haters. i have an 85 year old terrorist
at my corner. christian. when she speaks, she could take
the skin off anyone. and, she knows. for sure. everything.
and, she can never be wrong. she hates our black, muslim neighbors
with a passion. even the baby. it made me wonder why i was
re/doing all there plumbing, sinks, drains, toilet..free. then i remembered
that being a good neighbor counters hatred. i told her that.

Dear Mel

I Also do my selling your way . It's not so daft as it sounds since if
you added up the time you could spend on paranoid security it would not
cover the occasional pot that some 'lost' person pilfers. I like selling
'honey pot' I get a pride from selling something out side the rules of
greed.

Or more cynically - any body interested in hand made pottery can afford to
do their stealing with a 'slight of hand' - all up standing property owners
or idealists that would not destroy their sense of worth by stealing pottery
. We could not afford to be so spiritual if we were selling fags and booze'

What helps my serenity is being too disorganized and absent minded to
notice if any thing has ever been stolen .

I would be more sad about my stolen pot being an incumbrance to some ones
happiness. Knowing that they would have to redeem themselves from the theft
if they keep the pot around - although - I believe for small things
sometimes you can get the benefit of the doubt and we all carry some burdens
of guilt and stay relatively happy.

But this is a religious belief of mine - I have no evidence.

On the other hand if I caught some one robbing my house I would attack
them mercilessly. I wish my standards of behaviors had a consistency but now
I accept they never will. I would have to be a fundamentalists for that to
happen - for that I lack commitment :)

All wars are religious wars; except - of course - the ones we are
fighting. We in the West believe in the Dogma of scientific infalliblity ,
fight for freedom of speech , die for democracy, Insist on capitalism as an
economic standard- because we believe that Adam Smiths 'hidden hand' will
make it all work if every body did it.

Just because we avoid the rhetoric of calling our system of belief a
religion does not mean it's not so. These 'rational' principles are tailored
for our convenience and gain. No! All wars are Religious including the
ones fought on our behalf.

But you get to be the high priest here. You can express your views " 50
of them are religious conflicts". and then pre-cencor the views of others "
(this is not going to become a thread)". naughty boy !

Ironically I like you better with out the halo

Salaam Alecum
