Hi Millie,
I bisque to 04 and glaze fire to 06. If you look in the Axner
catalog on page c-111 you will see the small bead holders that I use (it
looks a lot like the illustration in claybair's post). Because I want to
keep the bead hole small, I use the rods that came with the holder to
build my beads on and then I use smaller nichrome (sp?) wire to glaze
fire on. For the 'Nature's Child Pendant', I stick a nichrome wire in
the side of a soft brick and hang the pendant on it for glaze firing.
For the 'Whistling Beads' I finally figured out that if I make one of
the tone holes bigger (then I use to) I could just stick the wire
vertically in a brick and then stick the wire in the tone hole. No more
stilt marks!! I have posted more pictures of some of my stilts and
hangers . Again in the Odds and Ends album. I hope this is of some help.
Melinda, in windy Fithian Illinois, looking forward to this spring when
we will run new gas lines to my reduction kiln so I can learn all of the
tricks to fire porcelain beads ( my U of I instructor had a spool of
wire that would withstand cone 10 and salt and still look brand new. It
is 2.38 mm. I just measured it using a drill gauge template. Does any
one know were I can get some of that?)
