John Tygart (Burnt Mud Pottery) (Highlandville, MO, USA) (Clayarter)
http://www.gardenartists.cc/burntmud.htm
Whether John's pieces are "functional" or "non-functional", they are
extremely engaging sculptural fantasies for the garden.
I love this (edited) quote from John's bio: (...n)ot wanting to follow
in the traditional family occupations of man of the cloth
(preacher) or incarcerated prisoner (criminal), I decided to become the
next best thing -- an artist."

This John Tygart sculptural piece was on exhibit at the "The Small
Museum of Contemporary Art, Missouri" (SMoCA-Mo)

A visit to South Africa
...
Gerhard de Beer - Crazy Clay (Knysna, South Africa)
http://www.crazyclay.co.za/
Runs a production studio specializing in African animals - The animals
done in raku glazes and post-firing reduction are quite "neat"!
...
Andre (Yogi) de Beer
http://www.cowshedpottery.co.za/
This potter hand throws absolutely huge pots, plus he makes actual
pottery old fashioned style bathtubs. How he makes them, I don't know,
but you can certainly lie back in them! There's an amusing shot of
Andre down in one of his humungous pots.
Andre writes that he force-dries the ware between stages of adding and
throwing coils and once-fires it, by pouring the glazes on the greenpot
while it is still on the wheel. The glazes are very nice, by the way!
...
Lesley-Ann Hoets (Hot-art Fireplaces) (South Africa)
http://www.hotart.co.za/
Major South African potter and academic who collaborated with engineer
Alex Kielczynski to develop a thermal shock-proof
free-standing ceramic fireplace. Hand moulded from her original
hand-built fireplace models.
...
Alex Kielczynski (South Africa)

Alex now runs his own commercial production facility, Earthfire
Fireplaces, creating a colour limited line of these stoves, which are
marketed internationally, as are those made by Hot-art.

Contemporary Ceramic Art (New York City, New York, USA)

Sheryl Zacharia - abstract tile arrangements; Helayne Friedland -
altered thrown functional pieces; Carolyn Judson -geometric forms;
Kate Missett - Canopic type jars; Beth Watson - figurative sculpture;
Outi Putkonen - Art Nouveau style; Claire Clark - figurative
work; Kazuko Azuma - traditional Japanese styles; Marilyn Fox - complex
organic forms.

Marcus O' Mahony (Glencairn Pottery) (County Waterford, Ireland)
http://www.marcusomahony.com/
Salt glaze potter. Taught ceramics at the college level for a lengthy
period. Offers courses at the pottery, including a five and a half day
pit-fire course and a 7 day salt glaze course. His work is fairly
traditional in appearance, yet individual in form.
Some parts of the web site are still being developed, but he has a well
organised gallery page up and the thumbnails are clickable to excellent
larger images.

Nan Hamilton Mudville Pottery (Boston (Somerville) Massachusetts,
USA)
http://www.nanhamilton.com/
Nan holds an annual auction of her hand thrown and hand painted
pottery. She is obviously very well-known in her area for her
depictions of animals and birds and dogs, many in natural settings? Nan
runs classes at the Mudville pottery as well., and also sells work on
EBay.
At the most recent auction at her Mudville studio, a fish-painted jug
sold for more than $5000.00. (Normal winning bids run between $150.00
and $500.00 or so.) The painting on these pots is wonderful, pictorial,
and painterly.
There is a large Quicktime(R) movie of the auction that is downloadable
in three versions depending on your modem speed.
