FYI - an exhibition of teapots opens today in Washington, D.C.
The show is entitled "Traditions in Elegance: 100 Teapots from the
Norwich Castle Museum"
From the brochure: "On display is a selection of 100 teapots from the
world's finest collection at Norwich Castle in England..... You'll
see the world's largest teapot made in 1851 for the Crystal Palace
exhibition in London".
The show is in the East Gallery in the United States Botanical Garden
located at 245 First St.
The exhibit continues through March 30.
If you're ever in D.C. and are into plants or simply want to have a
short "getaway" from the crowds, the USGB is a wonderful place. The
building has undergone a complete restoration and just reopened not
long ago. It's located at the end of the Mall, right down the hill
from the Capitol.

Bill -who just finished replacing all of the elements yesterday in an
Axner Super Kiln, their largest, where it was a long way down to the
floor element! The back of my legs are still sore from being
stretched to their limit.

I knew some of them would turn up eventually...

What truly WAS the finest collection on public display I have ever seen,
fell into the hands of the modernisers. During the course of spending
millions to "upgrade" the facilities, buildings, galleries, etc. one would
think that more of this very fine collection would find its way out of
storage and into the galleries, wouldn't one?

WRONG! Apparently (and I have not visited Norwich Castle Museum to see for
myself yet) the teapot collection has DIMINISHED to being one of those
peekaboo affairs with very little educational, artistic, technical,
historical or any other information beyond "this is a teapot".

Maybe Pat Southwood can tell us? Pat? You are down in that neck of the
woods... Is this just a rumour?

Sincerely

Janet Kaiser -- On a wet and windy night in Wales... 122 m.p.h. measured in
Scotland at the beginning of the week... Hope this is not that hurricane
force gale striking!
