Came up with my top ten list, it was difficult but if I could only have ten
clay books . . .
10. The Encyclopedia of Pottery Techniques - Peter Cosentino - great to
browse through or use as a reference.
9. The Potter's Complete Book of Clay & Glazes - James Chappell - good,
basic.
8. The Big Book of Ceramics - Joaquin Chavarria - lots of how-to photos
with details.
7. Glazes & Glazing Techniques - Greg Daly - really breaks down formulating
glazes.
6. The Potter's Guide to Ceramic Surfaces - Jo Connell - detailed
descriptions and guide to a multitude of techniques.
5. The Kiln Book - Frederick L. Olsen - the kiln Bible.
4. Finding One's Way With Clay - Paulus Berensohn - esoteric and aesthetic
inspiration.
3. A Potter's Book - Bernard Leach - THE book.
2. Functional Pottery - Robin Hopper - my reference, has me returning to it
frequently.
And #1 on my list is: Clay - A Studio Handbook - Vince Pitelka - fairly new
book that I rave about endlessly to my students, give as a gift. IMHO it
has the most information and I've already gotten it ragged in the six months
I've owned it.

hey Barbara:
Nice list. If I was to make it a "Top Twelve Books"
I think that I would put in Cardew's Pioneer Pottery, because it has so
much information and inspiration.
also I like Yanagi's The Unknown Craftman, There seem to be alot of
information-technique books but so few that feed the soul like his does.
