Hi "guys"
I did the richeous thing and searched through the entire cone 5-6
archives (man, are there a lot of glaze recipies in there) for a Celadon
formula and did not find anything. Does anyone on list have one they
could share?
Thanks,

Hello Klyf:

You don't say what atmosphere you are going to be using to fire the
celadon. If it's reduction, you can use glazes with a feldspar glaze core
with calcium as a secondary flux. Just add some iron to suit your
aesthetics. If you are using an oxidizing or neutral atmosphere, the same
glaze base will work and you can also try some other types. The colorants
will be different though. There are some faux celadons done in oxidation
that are very nice using copper, chrome, Mason celadon stain, and you can
also do some nice blue celadon fakes with a Mason turquoise stain. Lots of
possibilities.

Hi Klyf,
I have some notes in my file: "Mix 1/2 opaque white and 1/2 dark green scrap
glaze," wrote Paul Lewing.
Or you could try Burke's Celadon ^5-6 ox (Toni Martins)
58 custer feld
17 whiting
14 flint
6 OM #4 ball clay
5 zinc oxide

0.25% copper carb for celadon
1.00% copper carb for strong turquiose

My notes say Melinda Collins says that fast cool gives glossy and slow cool
a frosty matt and if you refire to ^06 you get "interesting"
She also says the glaze settles but doesn't hardpan

I've not tried the above.

Hi Klyf,
Go to http://www.ceramics.org/clayart/
Click on archives
click on Search archives (top line)
where it says:
The subject is or contains: type in celadon glaze
click search
The first several emails listed are about cone 5 celadon type glazes.
(I didn't read further)
Good luck. When I searched for "cone five celadon glaze" nothing came up so if you alter your search words it eventually comes up.

Hi Craig,
I realized after I sent off my request that I had left out that important
information. I am firing propane and do both oxidation and reduction.
I suppose it is not a true oxidation in a gas kiln, but close. I am using a
"porcelain" clay and a white burning stoneware for this type of work.

I am still enjoying my "cover of the rolling stone" pot I got from you.
It has a place of honor on the shelf.
