I'm about to try my hand at tile making. Currently, I use ^6 B-mix, and =
am
wondering how this will do as a tile. =20
Does anybody have any experience with this body in tile making? How =
about
B-mix with sand? If B-mix is a total failure for a nice, flat tile, =
what ^6
WHITE/light body will give me the best performance?
Thanks much.

HI Jimmy,
I use B-mix with sand for my tiles & large thrown or hand built pieces.
It works great. Make sure you check the Clayart archives for tips on how to
prevent tile warping.
I must confess at times I have been cavalier about tile drying.
My last tiles:
I laid a 1/2 inch slab on a drywall board,
impressed my bisque stamps into the clay,
cut only 1/2 way into the slab with my tile cutter and
let it sit overnight uncovered.
The next day I cut through the leatherhard slab with a knife.
I dried the tiles uncovered & they dried flat.
Now realize that I am in the Puget Sound region and it's been raining &
pretty humid here so I felt I could take liberties with drying them
uncovered. Your weather/humidity conditions may be different.
Good luck with your tile project.

For tile, I have used ^10 B-Mix, as well as ^5 B-Mix and ^5 B-Mix
with sand. The last is the best. I love the dense smoothness of the
nonsanded clays, but lost a significant number of large tiles in the
glaze firings--tiles that showed no flaws at all in the bisque. The
^5 B-Mix with sand is still lovely and captures fine detail, if
that's what you're looking for.
When I raku fired tiles, I tried the B-Mix but lost half and switched
to Laguna Rod's Bod for better results. Rod's Bod fires buff and has
a fair amount of grog.
