Winston-Salem and Forsyth County has grown a lot in the past few years but
it has still retained its "small-town" feel even though it could be called a
"city". Tobacco has pretty much gone as the main cash crop and banking and
medicine has taken over. We now have an "Arts District" in the 6th and
Trade street area and a lot of shops and galleries are thriving (my studio
is on Trade Street) and we have "Art-hops" the first Friday of every month
where studios and galleries are open...basically it is a downtown street
party! We have a lot of music and activity downtown in the streets every
summer usually three nights each week...it is a lot of fun! Downtown is
growing and becoming a really cool place! We have had two snows already
this year and both were pretty big (out of school for more than one day) and
we may get more...we can hope. Yes, they still close roads but I do not
know about the burning barrels. Contact me off-list and we can talk more.
