I usually give my second and third pieces to my mom as she says she
will find a use for them. I was visiting her ranch one day when I
noticed that one of the large bowl forms she was using for feeding
the miniture donkeys. She said that their new one would not eat from
plastic bowls, but ate right away from the stoneware bowl.

After she said this I tried an experiment with the cats on the
ranch. I filled three bowls with food, one plastic, one glass and
one of my seconds stoneware bowl. Low and behold, all three cats
went for the stoneware bowl.

Now am I going crazy or do animals have a preference for stoneware
over plastic or other materials out of which to eat.

Now, I could be wrong about this and this may just be a fluke, but if
anyone else has had the same experience, I may start thinking about
making feeding bowls for animals as one of my line of wares.

I dunno, but my cats have preferred handmade bowls too. However, they
don't seem to like the cobalt Fiestaware bowl (maybe because it's chipped?)

Hello and Kia Ora,
I have a friend who has two large dogs, one of them
a
German Shepherd. Several weeks ago the German Shepherd developed a sore in the
corner of her mouth which did not heal up so she took it to the Vet. He told
her that it was caused by the plastic bowl from which she was feeding the dog
and to obtain one of another non plastic material. The stainless steel ones
were rather expensive so I offered to make her 'dog bowls' for the two of them
in stoneware, my normal clay. The sore has healed and both dogs happy with
their feeders, no more problems. Perhaps????

Yours from New Zealand, Land of the Hobbits ----Best Wishes Maggie----
