advancer shelves and heat stress

Anybody using the silicon carbide Advancer shelves?

I'm soda firing and spray sodium bicarbonate in water (1 lb./gal., 4 gal.
total) and have been warned that it can cause breakage of these incredibly
expensive shelves because of the thermal shock.

Hey, Joy. Nice to encounter an old friend on clayart. You could always
check with Mary Law. I'm pretty sure she's used both regular silicon
carbide and advancers in her soda kiln, and I don't recall her mentioning
any breakage... You can email me off-list for her phone number if you don't
have it. Gary

There's nobody around here who knows about this stuff, so I'd appreciate any
comments.
