drilling in soft brick/hole

i have found a slick way to put a hole through
a soft brick kiln for a thermocouple/etc.

buy a brass/bronze tube at a hobby
or hardware store about a foot long.
(look at the display of exotic metal stuff)

the tube should be a hard brass/bronze.
mount the tube in an electric drill. slow speed.
drill slowly pushing the drill through the soft brick.
the waste goes into the tube and makes a perfect hole.

use a stiff wire to clean out the tube.

measure your thermocouple, and match the size
to the tube you buy.
mel
wood drills are too short and chop the hole to pieces.
i drill about six of these holes around the kiln. fill them
with kaowool til needed.
if you want to check some areas with the pyrometer, just
move it around.

Should one file little 'teeth' on the end, it shall work all
the nicer.

Larger diameter tubes, or long-enough sections of them ( as
say 'conduit' or similar thin-walled tube, scraps from a
'Muffler Shop' etc ), may be soldered or affixed otherwise,
to an end plug or cap as has a stem to allow their use in a
smaller electric hand Drill, hopefully one with variable or
slowish rpm.
