how much space between shelf and kiln wall?

Hello,

How much space should I leave between the edge of the shelves and the kiln
wall in a gas fired downdraft? I currently only have about 2 inches, which I
think might be causing uneven temperatures in the kiln.

Thanks,
Lajos

Lajos,

A few days behind with my reading; I got to your post yesterday.

If your burners are on either side of the pot setting I should leave the
width of the burner channels. At any rate leave as much room as you
comfortably can. If more than one shelf makes up a layer, try to leave
gaps between them.
I always try to *think* like a flame; it always takes the easiest route
and avoids a squeeze!
