always have a book of matches handy.
try the leads in different ways...red, white, pos, neg.
on each try light a match and hold it on the end
of the thermocouple.
if it climbs, fast, you have it right.
if it goes backwards, perhaps you have it wrong.
simple.
don't be complex.
