Exhibition of Anagama Woodfired and Raku Works in Clay, February 8 =
through Feb 27

Tony Ferguson (ARAC McKnight Fellow for 2002-2003) will exhibit his =
current body of work entitled "La Piedra Comunica." "The Stone =
Communicates" references how stone has served as a communication and =
technological device throughout time. =20

"From the cairns and marker stones of the United Kingdom, to the =
cuneiform of the early Mesopotamians, from the Polynesian heads of =
Eastern Island, to the ten commandments, stone--the earth--clay has been =
and will always be a communication device. Even today we communicate =
with computers whose primary material, silica, allows us to communicate =
with language and images. From man to earth, and earth to man, the =
geologist learns of our history through stone; and in turn, we learn of =
our selves from these records."

Ferguson's current body of work represents his transition into ceramic =
sculpture as well as his subtle, robust and elegant woodfired or raku =
vessel forms. This exhibition reflects Ferguson's use of an ARAC =
McKnight Fellowship awarded to him last summer for the year to afford =
him the time and materials to explore ceramic sculpture.

Opening reception will be Saturday, February 8th from 7:00 to =
9:00p.m.at Washington Galleries, 315 N. Lake Ave, Duluth, MN, 55806, =
Main gallery, Second floor. Regular gallery hours are 1 to 5pm =
Saturdays and Sundays or by appointment. Call 727-6339, email =
fergy@cpinternet.com or visit www.aquariusartgallery.com for a preview =
of the current exhibition and information about the artist and his lost =
art process of single firing.
