We have "plugged" clays, suppliers, books, etc. Let me plug Jann and Steve
Welchs' bed and breakfast in Bakersville--within whistling distance of
Penland. Jann is an artist-potter, makes fine functional stuff, marvelous
sculptural things; she also is a watercolorist and just one of those gifted
enthusiastic all around artists... She is a lively, hardworking, amusing
person, who was teaching at the Gibbes Museum Studio in Charleston SC when I
taught there--and over the years we became good friends. The Welchs moved
to Bakersville about two years ago. where she opened the Picket Fence
Pottery, and Steve --who is as nice as Jann--opened the Bakersville Bed and
Breakfast. As I have dined at their house in C'ton, I KNOW they are super
cooks.
