Hi!
I have two skutt kilns with controllers, and I also started
experimenting by first altering their suggested cone 5 ramps to cone 6.
Be sure to place cones to so you can match temperature to your
original automatic load results. I have also found that not only will
results vary from skutt kiln to kiln, but also be sure to watch your
cones carefully when you have replaced the thermocouple. One of mine
fired slightly higher in temp with a new thermocouple, and one I had to
bump up a few degrees to get the same results. I used the automatic
for years with a 20 minute hold, but as these kilns age, they do cool
faster, and tI believe the slow cooling eventually becomes essential to
protect the ware.
Happy testing!!
