the best kiln god you can find is a copy of nils lou's book
`the art of firing`. read it, memorize it.
also:
a good note book, with a history of your firings.
not complex, just a brief history of weather, wind, rain...barometer.
after five or six years of firing, you may stop note taking, unless
you have an exotic firing.
same with electric...just simple notes...reminders of experiments.
how long the firing has taken.
good science will always replace a kiln god.
(now, don't think i don't have some...one a real inca, and
a tiny test pot from the kiln of kawai.)
it is good to remind oneself that firing, pots, glaze are not `hocus-pocus`
but, real, hard line science. art and design become a part of the
equation as you give it time....but, design takes thinking too.

So explain this - since I haphazardly placed a kiln god on top of the
TV in my studio, I have been getting really exceptional reception!
There must be some magic in there somewhere.... ;-)
