Dear Stephani,
Thanks for all your info on San Diego. It will help many of us through
the city.
As for the milk and terra cotta, that sounds very interesting. I have
been reading Becky Bee's book on Cob Building. She will be a presenter
at NCECA in the panel in "Architecture as Metaphor". She mentions a milk
based sealer for these cob structures.
Homesteaders in the Dakotas used an egg casein (as in original
gouache)surface treatment on sod homes.
It is all interesting. I used a lime additive for hardening my clay
rammed earth structure in the '70s. These of course are unfired clay
structures. The transferring of the idea of this organic material to
seal a fired piece is interesting. Thanks for the description. It sounds
like a good read.
Looking forward to seeing you in SD.
Best wishes,
Marcia
