this...go to digital fire websight

I and others have posted this in the past. Tom Buck first wrote about
the problem of fading raku glazes a number of years ago. Read his article,
"First you see them then you don't." He has a number of glazes on his
websight that are reformulations of old glazes that faded but that he has
reworked to make them more archival. I don't think that any raku glaze is
truly archival in quality due to inherent lack of virtification of the clay
body. Just don't think a building will stand for the ages if it ain't built
on a solid foundation.
The following is the link to the site he is part of, articles that he
has written, and suggested glaze formula substitutions for raku. Check it
out!http://www.digitalfire.ab.ca/cermat/education/index.php?PHPSESSID=615b8d

It didn't hyperlink for some reason so you might just go to the digital fire
home page and link from there.
As far as media that will retard the degradation of a raku glaze,
especially of the infamous "raku matt" family I know folks who use both
spray acrylic and grout sealer on theirs. They have also taken to telling
their customers that this is not a permanent fix for the matts and that
there will be color degradation over time, albeit much more time than if the
piece were not sealed. Haven't heard any substantive report on how long that
time will actually be though. I've made the decision not to mess with matts
anymore due to their inherent instability.
Hope this helps
